It seems that the expected new charging box for the AirPods not only allows wireless charging but also ensures that the earplugs are extremely fast. The AirPods could charge from 0 to 100 percent in about a quarter of an hour in the new case.
AirPods wireless charging is very fast
This is what Max Weinbach, a technology journalist from XDA Developers, reports on Twitter. According to Weinbach, the AirPods and the new wireless rechargeable charge fully charge in 15 minutes. So both the earplugs and the charging box are completely empty, then they are completely full again in no time. By comparison, with the current AirPods charging case, you can listen to music for three hours after a quarter of an hour, according to Apple. Charging the earplugs and the box completely takes considerably longer.
For the charging speed, it would be a big step forward. However, the new box would be slightly thicker, longer and heavier than the current case, so that wireless charging is possible.
Weinbach further reports that the wireless charging of the AirPods is via the Qi standard. This standard also uses Apple for its latest iPhones and that means you can put the AirPods case on almost any wireless charger that already works with your iPhone.
The release of the new AirPods (charging case)
According to the latest rumors, we do not have to wait long for the wireless charging box to appear. Apple may already release the case at the end of this month and it will be shown for the first time during the first event of 2019, which will probably take place on 25 March. The company from Cupertino is also working on completely new AirPods, with an adapted design, support for the ‘Hé Siri’ voice command and improved sound quality.
It remains to be seen whether the second generation AirPods will be announced at the same time as the new charging box. It is also possible that Apple first comes with the case and the renewed earplugs only later this year in stores, but they then standard with the new box. Knowing more?
