In the source code of Android, references to no fewer than three new Google devices have been found. This is code names for unannounced products, probably the Google Pixel 4 series.
Google Pixel 4 code names leaked
Although the Google Pixel 4 series will take a while, the code names for the new smartphones have already surfaced. 9to5Google discovered the code names in the source code of the Android Open Source Project. This suggests that Google is already working on adjustments to Android, optimized for the new Pixel devices.
It is striking that this year not two, but three new code names have been spotted in the source code. The Google Pixel 4 code is referred to as ‘Coral’, the Pixel 4 XL as ‘Flame’ and an unknown third device as ‘Needlefish’. It would, in any case, be a new device, but it is still unclear whether it is a smartphone, tablet or wearable.
In recent months, rumors have surfaced about a Google Pixel 4 Ultra, a more powerful device with a larger screen. There is also speculation that Google is working on a new Android tablet. It may be one of these new devices that Google hopes to release later this year.
Cheap Google Pixel 3a still on the way
It is probably not the Google Pixel 3a XL. The cheap version of the Google Pixel 3 XL already leaked out earlier under the code name ‘Bonita’. That device may soon be revealed.
A few specifications of the Google Pixel 4 leaked out recently: the device probably has a Snapdragon 855 chip and 6GB of memory. Details about the screen, the camera, and other hardware are still missing.
Previous devices in the Google Pixel series were always unveiled in October. Google is probably following a similar schedule this year. If that is the case, it will take another six months before the new Pixel series is presented.
