Confirmed: Huawei P30 Pro gets camera with periscopic zoom

Huawei P30 Pro cameraAt the end of this month, the new Huawei flagship will only be unveiled, but the Chinese company is already shedding a corner of the veil. For example, the Huawei P30 Pro camera promises substantial improvements in the zoom area.

Huawei P30 Pro camera has improved zoom

The Huawei P30 Pro gets a periscopic zoom camera, promises Huawei CEO Clement Wong in an interview with Android Central. He says that the device is equipped with an option for a superzoom, although it is still unknown how much zoom we can expect.

It is probably at least an upgrade compared to the Huawei P20 Pro. That appeared in early 2018 equipped with 3x optical zoom and 5x hybrid zoom. Sources speak about 10x zoom for the P30 Pro, although it is still unknown whether that is optical or hybrid.Huawei P30 Pro camera moonshot

Wang does not want to say anything about it and refers in the interview only to a photo shared by Huawei CEO Richard Yu on the social network Weibo. On this picture (above) a close-up of the moon can be seen, with even some contours of the lunar landscape visible. Wang confirms that this photo has been shot with the P30, from the loose wrist, and without any other accessories. That suggests at least an impressive zoom function.

Better pictures with less light

In addition, the photo quality in low-light situations is a priority according to Wong. On the P20 Pro, Huawei uses an extra monochrome lens to collect more image information, which also makes sharp, detailed photos even in the dark. According to Wong, the camera of the P30 Pro gets a big upgrade in that area, through a combination of smart software and improved hardware.

Exactly how Huawei is going to achieve that, the CEO could not tell. Fortunately, we find out quickly enough. On March 26, the manufacturer organizes an event in Paris where the Huawei P30, P30 Pro and P30 Lite are presented to the world.
