Top camera with 5x optical zoom
With the P30 and P30 Pro, Huawei focuses primarily on the camera. The P30 Pro, the absolute top model, has four sensors at the rear. It is a primary camera of 40 megapixels, which is also equipped with optical image stabilization. In addition, there is a 16-megapixel lens for ultra-wide shots, which means that you can take very wide shots.
The most important innovation has to do with the 8-megapixel camera (with optical image stabilization) for periscopic zoom. A special sensor allows up to 5x optical zooming, which means that you can get images very close without compromising on quality and sharpness. Huawei also uses artificial intelligence to enable up to 10x hybrid zoom, whereby the software ensures that your shots stay sharp. You can also zoom up to 50x digitally, but with such a strong zoom the image becomes.
The Time of Flight sensor is new. Such a sensor sends out infrared light to all objects around you. The sensor then registers how quickly that light reflects off to measure distances. The P30 Pro, which only has a ToF sensor, uses it when taking portrait photos because it allows better depth estimation. Finally, on both the P30 Pro and regular P30 there is a 32-megapixel front camera for taking selfies.
Renewed design and high-end hardware
Huawei is also focusing on the design by giving the P30 Pro a full glass housing with a screen that slopes obliquely into the edges. It is an OLED display with a resolution of 2340 by 1080 pixels. So no QHD resolution, but full-HD is more than sufficient on this screen format and is also more favorable for the battery life.
The battery capacity with 4200 mAh (Huawei P30 Pro) and 3650 mAh (P30) is substantial and should ensure that the phones last two days at full charge. The P30 Pro is also equipped with a 40-watt charger, which means that the battery is quickly charged again. The P30 has a less powerful 22.5-watt adapter.
Under the hood is a Kirin 980 chip, which we know from last year ‘s Huawei Mate 20 Pro. With the P30 Pro, the processor is assisted by 8GB RAM and 128 / 256GB storage. With the ‘normal’ P30 this is 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage space. The fingerprint scanner is under the screen, face recognition is also present. Out of the box, the devices run on Android 9.0 (Pie) with the well-known EMUI skin from Huawei, which makes substantial changes to the mobile operating system.
