Finally: LG G7 ThinQ gets Android Pie update after nine months

LG G7 Android Pie update

While Android Q is already in the starting blocks, LG has only just started rolling out Android Pie. Owners of the LG G7 ThinQ can start using the software from today.

LG G7 Android Pie update available

The Android 9.0 (Pie) update for the LG G7 ThinQ will be rolled out across Europe from today. Various users in the united states, but also Poland, the Czech Republic, and Italy say they have received the update. The complete update file is more than 1.4 GB in size, so it’s best to download it only with a Wi-Fi connection.

Users automatically receive an update as soon as the new software is ready for their smartphone. If you do not have a notification, you will have to be patient. LG is gradually rolling out the update, so it takes a few days to weeks for everyone’s turn. You can also manually check for the availability of Android Pie by searching for ‘Software update’ in the settings.

At first glance, the update does not change much, because LG has left its own Android interface unchanged. A few new features have been added, such as smarter quick settings and optimizations that ensure that your battery lasts longer.

LG’s outdated update policy

LG’s update policy is well behind almost all competitors. Google released the final version of Android Pie in August 2018. Sony, Nokia and OnePlus, among others, subsequently rolled out this update for several smartphones within a few weeks. Since the beginning of this year, Samsung, Motorola, and Huawei have also provided various devices with Android Pie.

Why LG needs so much time is unclear. It is also questionable when other LG smartphones will be updated. The LG V30, LG Q7, and LG G6, among others, are still waiting for an Android Pie update. We are also waiting for the release of the LG G8 ThinQ, the manufacturer’s new flagship that was presented in February.

At the end of 2018, Rens wrote about the ‘disaster year’ that LG has had. He already noticed that the company is starting to fall behind in terms of security updates. For the time being, however, the tide of the manufacturer does not seem to be turning.
