Motorola Moto G5S also finally updated to Android Oreo

Motorola Moto G5S Android Oreo updateAfter the almost three-year-old Moto G4 Plus of Android Oreo was provided, the newer Moto G5S is also updated to this version of the operating system. The update took a long time in Europe but is now finally (also in the United States) to download.

Motorola Moto G5S Android Oreo update released

The Moto G5S appeared in September 2017 in the United States with Android 7.1.1 (Nougat), and Motorola promised a bit later that the smartphone would be updated to Android Oreo. The update has long been delayed and has been available in Europe since last week.

This means that United States users of the Moto G5S can also update their device. Oreo is the first and last major update for the G5S; the phone does not get Android 9.0 (Pie).

In addition to all features of Android 8.1 (Oreo), the update also contains the security patch of December 2018. In the coming months, the Moto G5S will be provided with new security updates. The Moto G5S Plus, the bigger brother of the G5S, was already equipped with Android 8.1 last year. The regular Moto G5 and G5 Plus got Oreo before, although the update also took a long time.

More about the Moto G5S

The Moto G5S is an improved version of the Moto G5 and includes a better camera, more storage (32GB vs 16GB) and a larger battery. In addition, the G5S has a full metal housing, while that of the regular G5 only had a metal back and is made of plastic. The smartphone has a 5.2 inch full HD screen, Snapdragon 430 chip, 3GB RAM, the fingerprint scanner on the front and a 16-megapixel camera.

The Moto G5S was succeeded last year by the Moto G6, G6 Plus, and G6 Play. We have now reached the Moto G7 series, which consists of the Moto G7, Moto G7 Plus, Moto G7 Power and Moto G7 Play. The phones are now available in the Netherlands, except for the ‘normal’ Moto G7. This device is in stores in mid-March.
