The Google Home Hub will be given a new name soon, sources report. The device gets a new introduction as the Nest Hub, probably next month already.
New name Google Home Hub announced
The Google Home Hub will continue to exist, but may be given a new name, reports 9to5Google. The search company is considering re-introducing the smart screen as the ‘Google Nest Hub’. According to the site, the name change will be confirmed in early May, if Google also displays the ‘Nest Hub Max’. The first details about this recently leaked out.
The Nest Hub Max is probably equipped with a larger 10-inch screen. Moreover, it has a built-in Nest camera. It can function as a security camera, but also for video calls. The current Home Hub has only a 7-inch screen and is missing a camera. The Home Hub is sold in the United States for a suggested retail price of $ 149.
The nest was acquired by Google in 2014 and specializes in smart devices for the home. The company already makes smart smoke detectors and thermostats. By also using the Nest name for smart screens, Google is likely to emphasize that the Nest Hub can be combined with more products.
The regular Google Home, which does not have a screen, seems to retain its name. The Home Mini and Home Max also do not get a Nest in the name.
Google Home Hub release in the United States uncertain
The new name may be one of the reasons why the smart screen is currently only available in a small number of countries. The Google Home Hub is currently only sold in the United States and the United Kingdom, while the regular Home is now available in more and more countries. Both the Home and Home Mini have been available in the United States since the end of 2018. Google has still not shared plans for a wider release of the Home Hub.
We may hear more at the beginning of May, during Google I / O. That is the annual developer conference of the search giant. There, the company presents its plans for hardware and software for the coming months and years. The conference starts with a keynote on Tuesday 7 May at 7 p.m. where possible the new Nest series will be presented, together with the highly anticipated Google Pixel 3a. We also see Android Q, Google Stages and other apps and services there.
