The long-awaited, final Android 9.0 (Pie) update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T is now available. In this article, we list all improvements and innovations.
What is the weather like?
The Pie update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T is a special story. The smartphones were introduced in July 2016 with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). OnePlus gave the devices – as promised – two Android updates to Android 7.0 (Nougat) and 8.0 (Oreo) respectively. That seemed like the end station for the 3 (T). In July 2018, when Android 9.0 (Pie) was almost released, OnePlus announced that the software update would also come to the OnePlus 3 and 3T. So a third update, which is special because almost all more expensive Android smartphones receive two updates.
OnePlus originally hoped to roll out the Pie update before the turn of the year, but came back to that later. The manufacturer needed ‘more time’ for an unspecified reason (s). The first Android Pie beta for the OnePlus 3 and 3T was released last month, indicating that the final update was almost ready. That moment has now arrived.
OnePlus 3 (T) receives Android Pie update
The software update lifts the OnePlus 3 (T) from Android 8.0 (Oreo) to version 9.0 (Pie) . This means that you benefit from all kinds of improvements, including richer notifications and a different settings screen. You can now also operate your device with gestures instead of navigation buttons. The software also gives you more control over your privacy and your telephone use. In addition to the standard Android Pie functions, OnePlus itself has also implemented a number of improvements. You can find them below.

Pie is the end station for the OnePlus 3 (T)
The OnePlus 3 and 3T have received their third and final update with Android Pie. The devices are not updated to Android 10.0 (Q), which appears in the fall. Whether the OnePlus 5 and 5T will get an Android Q update is not yet known. A OnePlus spokesperson cannot provide information about this. The OnePlus 6, 6T, 7 and 7 Pro are guaranteed to receive Android Q. You can even install a test version of Android Q on your smartphone.
