The Sony Xperia 1 will be unveiled next Monday, but a picture of the device has already surfaced. The elongated device will be the new flagship of the Japanese manufacturer.
Sony Xperia 1 photo leaked
The successor to the Sony Xperia XZ3 is not the Xperia XZ4, but the Xperia 1. This is shown by a tweet from the generally reliable telecom insider Evan Blass. It seems that Sony is deleting its current series, and starts again. Earlier, all the Xperia 10 and 10 Plus leaked two midrange smartphones that follow the Xperia XA series.
The Sony Xperia 1 seems to be a striking device. On the photo, we see an elongated screen that fills almost the whole front. Sony does not seem to use a notch or camera hole: on both sides of the screen is just a narrow black border. According to sources, the 6.5 inch OLED screen has an aspect ratio of 21 by 9, comparable with the aspect ratio of cinema films. This creates a high, but the relatively narrow device.
Three cameras with one 52 megapixel lens
There are three cameras on the back of the device, a first for Sony. The Xperia XZ3 still had to do it with a single camera. If we can believe the rumors, the Xperia 1 has a primary lens of 52 megapixels.
It is likely that quad-Bayer technology will be used to compress that image in one photo of fewer megapixels, which looks a lot more colorful and sharper. The other two lenses are expected to be a telephoto lens to zoom in and a 3D camera for augmented reality apps.
Within a few days, we will know if all rumors are correct. On Monday morning (February 25) Sony is organizing a press conference in Barcelona. There the company says to show several new devices. In addition to the Xperia 1, the Xperia 10 and 10 Plus are probably shown there for the first time.
The device is further equipped with the latest hardware at the moment, including a Snapdragon 855 chip, 6GB RAM and 128GB storage space. As we are used to from Sony, the software is up-to-date and the Xperia 1 is equipped with Android 9.0 (Pie).
