WhatsApp has again released a nice update, which means that you can now give WhatsApp private answers to others in group conversations. In addition, the chat service adds two useful functions.
WhatsApp private answers and more: three new features in iOS app
The function was a while ago discovered in a beta version WhatsApp, but finally by everyone. From now on you can reply privately to a message in a group chat. This makes it easier to keep track of chaotic group discussions.
The average WhatsApp user has at least a handful of group chats, and at peak times the messages will fly you sometimes. In order to create peace in that chaos, WhatsApp now introduces the private answer function.
Responding privately is very easy. Keep the message down in a group chat that you want to respond to privately. Then tap on ‘More’ in the menu that appears and then chooses ‘Private answers’. This will open the message from the group conversation as a reply in a private conversation with the sender.
Here you can type another answer, or add an image for example. You react personally to someone without other group members being able to read. This is particularly useful if you want to short-circuit something with someone, but there are too many messages in the group app to keep track of.
Edit with stickers and preview status
In the most recent version of the app, it is now also possible to add stickers or emoji to a photo or video during editing. When you want to send a photo or video to someone in WhatsApp, you always get the option to edit it or to add text.
You simply add stickers and emoji by tapping the smiley icon in the editing window and selecting a matching image. Tap and drag around the image until it is right. The wrong emoji stuck on it? Simply hold it down and a trash can appears at the top left where you can drag it into.
The third new feature is a preview of status by means of 3D Touch. WhatsApp Status has been available for almost two years and an equivalent of Snapchat or Instagram Stories.
Nevertheless, the Status function of the chat app is not as popular as these competitors. When you are in the Status tab, you can see a preview of the status of contacts by holding a powerful screen.
Waiting for dark mode
Although WhatsApp with this update makes the app a lot more user-friendly, it is still waiting for the rollout of a dark mode. The developers of the chat service seem to be working on this for a while.
At the end of last year, leaked screenshots of a dark version appeared in WhatsApp. More and more apps get a dark mode, including Facebook Messenger, which looks better in the evenings.
