The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE will soon also be available in the United States. The affordable variant of the Mi 9 has a smaller screen and is less powerful.
Xiaomi Mi 9 SE release confirmed in the United States
The new Xiaomi smartphone will be available from Mobiel.nl this week. The black version of Mi 9 SE (with 128GB of storage space) is being sold there for a price of 399 euros. That makes it slightly cheaper than the regular Xiaomi Mi 9: it costs 449 euros with 64GB of storage space, and 499 euros with 128GB.
The main specifications of the device are as follows:
- 6-inch screen with a resolution of 2340 by 1080 pixels
- 48 + 13 + 8-megapixel camera on the back, the 20-megapixel camera on the front
- Runs on Android 9.0 (Pie) with MIUI interface
- Snapdragon 712 chip with 6GB memory
- 128 GB storage space, not expandable
- 3070 mAh battery with fast charging
The differences between the Mi 9 and Mi 9 SE are relatively small and are mainly limited to the camera and computing power. For example, the Mi 9 SE has a somewhat less good wide-angle lens and telephoto lens, of 13 and 8 megapixel instead of 16 and 12 megapixel. The smooth Snapdragon 855 chip was also exchanged for the Snapdragon 712, a chipset for midrange smartphones.
Nevertheless, this variant also has a competitive price-quality ratio. You will find the Samsung Galaxy A70 and Huawei Mate 20 Lite in the same price range. Compared to that pair, the Mi 9 SE has more powerful hardware, more storage space, and better cameras.
Xiaomi in the United States
Xiaomi devices have been available in the United States for some time through gray imports and sellers such as AliExpress. The company has since the spring also active on the United States market and sells its smartphones including through Belsimpel, Mobiel.nl, People’s shop, and even Kruidvat.
Xiaomi sells more than one hundred million smartphones a year worldwide. In the home country of China, the manufacturer is even larger than Samsung and Apple. Xiaomi is known for powerful smartphones at a low price. Due to its competitive price-quality ratio, the company has long been popular with importers. In addition to the Mi 9, the United States also sells Mi A2, Redmi Note 7 and Mi Band 3.
